2008 Catholic Ministries Appeal

“Hands of Christ”

Supporting the Community around Us

The Catholic Ministries Appeal is continuing throughout the Diocese and here at St. Mary of the Isle.

Returns thus far for our parish have been slow, but we feel sure they will begin to improve. God has blessed us all in many different ways and we ask that every family please consider making a sacrifice to the best of their ability based on those blessings.

Your response will assist the many families across our diocese that look to those ministries that are in need of this funding. Your gift will continue the mission of helping those in need.

Gifts to the appeal can be sent here to the parish or to the Diocese of Rockville Centre, N.Y. 11571-9023. For further information about the appeal and the many ways to give, please go to: the Diocesan site.

Matthew’s Gospel

Fr. Tom Candreva’s Prayer-study group

will meet in the rectory on Tuesday, July 22.

In preparation, please read chapter 12 of

 Matthew’s Gospel.  All are welcome.

Is Jesus Christ calling you or

someone you know?

Take a look at the RCIA process.

The  RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process through which adults enter into the Catholic faith. RCIA is a spiritual journey designed in phases and implemented through various rites. The participants' spiritual growth is encouraged and enhanced through weekly reflection on God's Word and the teachings of Catholic doctrine and traditions. The RCIA is a journey of conversion for the person participating in the initiation process, and by extension it can be a journey of conversion for the whole parish! That is, conversion happens if the parish fully embraces the process of initiation and walks the journey of faith with the candidates for initiation.

Who typically attends RCIA?
• Those married to Catholics
• Those visitors who are interested in Catholicism
• Those who have not gone to church but are looking

   for a faith experience
• Inactive Catholics who wish to return to Church
• Those separated from the Sacraments for any reason,

i.e., not married in the Church or re-married
• Those who missed any of the Sacraments of

   Initiation.
• Active Catholics wishing to increase their

   understanding of the Catholic faith.

Please call the Rectory and leave a message for

PASTORAL FORMATION INSTITUTE

“The one who sent me is true,

and what I heard from him I tell the world.”

(John 8:26)

Is God calling you to ministerial leadership in your community?

Fulfilling its responsibility to the Church of Long Island, the Office of Faith Formation prepares, catechizes, educates, forms, and authorizes lay ministers and leaders to hand on the faith to others as Jesus has commanded.

One of the primary ways we do this is through the Pastoral Formation Institute (PFI). This extensive and in depth program involves lay people in an integrated process of spiritual, theological, and personal growth. It aims at the development of skilled and confident leaders who are formed in community, rooted in personal and liturgical prayer, and who fully embrace discipleship of Christ Jesus as members of his Body.

What is the Pastoral Formation Institute?

The Pastoral Formation Institute is a two-year program of intensive spiritual and theological formation, with the option for a third year of leadership training in a particular ministry.

If you think you may be interested in the Pastoral Formation Institute as an avenue to lay leadership please see Fr. Chris for further information.

Vatican Seeking Spiritual Moms for Priests

Zenit News Story Here

On the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, The Vatican Congregation for the Clergy announced an initiative to seek people willing to offer Eucharistic adoration for the priesthood and "consecrated feminine souls" ready to become spiritual mothers of priests.

A new website from that Vatican dicastery offers explanations and resources both for the campaign to begin Eucharistic adoration and for those who would like to be spiritual mothers of priests, following the example of the Virgin Mary.

The campaign is focused on a spiritual endeavor: "In order to continually maintain a greater awareness of the ontological link between the Eucharist and the priesthood, and in order to recognize the special maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary for each priest, it is our intention to bring about a connection between perpetual Eucharistic adoration for the reparation of faults and sanctification of priests."

Financial Transparency

In an effort to provide financial transparency, Fr. Chris has provided an outline of the weekend collections and cost to run the parish. View it here.
