Ministry Fair 2011

On Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th, 2011, St. Mary of the Isle held a Ministry Fair. There were at least 50 ministries in our parish that were represented, each of them including a coordinator who arranged for coverage of the booths after each mass on Saturday and Sunday. The turnout was better than expected as was the signing up of volunteers for the various ministries. All the Catholic organizations of our parish and Long Beach were very well represented, such as Knights of Columbus; and FILCAG, a Filipino Catholic Group. Volunteers from the following ministries were on hand to answer questions pertaining to their ministry and explain the responsibilities of each: hospitality; decorating; Outreach-pantry; bereavement; ministry of consolation; stewardship; knitting group; liturgy ministries; fundraising; pastoral leadership; lectors; ushers; Faith Formation; counters; summer fair; St. Vincent DePaul; respect life; grounds; blood drive; Bible study; Eucharistic ministers; LBRCS board members and several more. The volunteers from the Hospitality Ministry served their homemade cakes and goodies along with coffee, iced tea and lemonade and as usual, did a phenomenal job. We hope to repeat this experience again not only to increase our staff of volunteers, but to give our parishioners the opportunity to meet and greet one another creating a wonderful camaraderie.
